In general, Obsidian seeks to play a significant
part in English communities, especially in the North-East,
which has a rich heritage through its industry, personalities,
churches and cathedrals and, since the end of coal mining,
tourism through its wonderful countryside.
A Corporate DVD
The national headquarters of British Furniture Manufacturers asked Obsidian
to prepare a DVD showing the need for improved practical qualifications for
the national workforce. It was part of its campaign to recruit new members
Wensleydale Railway
Wensleydale Railway line was brought back to life after a ten year fight by
enthusiasts to reverse the Beeching ruling of the 1960s. This is part of a DVD
used by the line to attract national interest and funding. It covers the reopening
by William Hague and looks at the history of the previous decade.
Weardale Railway
Weardale's fight to bring back its line was almost a parallel with Wensleydale.
Their struggle ended briefly when the line ran for several months. This is part
of a DVD made during the ten-year struggle to reopen a line vital to the dale's
economy.
Wildlife 1
Nature Link is an organisation comprising multinational companies whose aim
is to ensure that when countryside is scarred by new works, it is returned to
its natural state when industry leaves. This is a part DVD made for ICI explaining
the thinking behind Nature Link.
Wildlife 2
The second clip from Nature Link shows the new setting for four rhinos who have
been captured and moved to a new and safer environment in South Africa.
A Village Museum
Part of Obsidian's philosophy is to contribute to retaining
England heritage. A North-East museum in Marske-by-the-Sea has a museum
dedicated to retaining its own history. This is part of a DVD made by
Obsidian and based on old pictures of the village. It can be seen in
full in the museum, Winkie's Castle, and is also on sale within the museum.
